Alabama Birth Coalition... Birmingham May 3rd

Lets get active people!

Sage Femme and EP images are headed to Eutaw, Alabama on May 3rd, 2008 to celebrate and document Margaret Charles Smith Day. Sage Femme has been asked to provide the documentary, "Miss Margaret" and Diana Paul, Executive Director, will be the keynote speaker.

"Miss Margaret" is a film about Granny Midwife, Margaret Charles Smith. Mrs. Smith was one of the last great midwives in the Deep South. She delivered over 3,500 babies never losing a mother. She passed away peacefully in 2004, but we want her thoughts, morals and ideals to live on.

"Kind words does it all" -Margaret Charles Smith

The Alabama Birth Coalition has teamed up with Sage Femme and have arranged for screenings of the film at a prominent church in Birmingham the same weekend.

Why is this important?

IT IS ILLEGAL TO PRACTICE MIDWIFERY IN ALABAMA. Our goal is to raise awareness and show support for the midwives there and to let the government know that women should have the choice.

If you are interested in seeing the film or having a screening in your town, please contact Diana Paul at http://www.homebirthvideos.com/

Please also visit the Alabama Birth Coalition's website for more information:

Very Important Show!

Please make plans to attend the opening reception for
"No Swimming Until Further Notice"
a photographic exhibition by emily payne

See press release and image below:

Cantina Lounge is pleased to host a photo-documentary exhibition calling attention to the damaged ecosystem in Baja California due to lack of clean water. The exhibition juxtaposes the stripped down beauty of the land with the imminent destruction of important ecosystems that affect the livelihood of local people.

The exhibition is a result of a recent trip to Baja California led by the Sonoran Institute and a team of Environmental Law Students from New College of California School of Law. The Sonoran Institute provided comprehensive education to the students about issues surrounding water in this area, and facilitated steps to rehabilitate the land, create an eco camp and provide hope for rebirth of indigenous plants and animals.

The opening reception will function as a fundraiser to assist the Sonoran Institute to continue to raise awareness about this dire issue. Refreshments and drink specials will be available. All photographs are available for purchase. Four framed photographs and donated gifts will be auctioned on April 3rd including massage packages, floral arrangements and more. All donations and silent auction proceeds will be donated to the Sonoran Institute and the Environmental Law Caucus at New College of California School of Law.
